Alert channels
Email, push, SMS, Slack, Discord, Telegram and Matrix: how to set up each one.
An alert channel is a place UptimeDuck sends alerts to. Create channels on the Notification Channels page in the panel, then link them to your monitors. A monitor only alerts the channels linked to it.
| Channel | You need |
|---|---|
| An email address you can verify | |
| Mobile app (push) | The UptimeDuck app for iOS or Android |
| SMS | A phone number in international format |
| Slack | A Slack Incoming Webhook URL |
| Discord | A Discord webhook URL |
| Telegram | A Telegram chat ID |
| Matrix | A room ID and an access token |
Alerts tell you when a monitor goes down and when it is back up. You can send a test alert to a channel from the Notification Channels page.
Enter the destination email address. We send a verification email right after you create the channel, and the channel only receives alerts once the address is verified.
An email channel that UptimeDuck creates for your own account email is already verified, because you verified that address when you signed up.
Mobile app (push)
- Install the UptimeDuck app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in with your UptimeDuck account.
- The phone appears on the Notification Channels page as an UptimeDuck App channel. Link it to your monitors.
Each phone gets its own channel. You can rename it; the device details come from the app and are read-only.
SMS
- Enter the phone number with its country code, for example
+44...for the UK or+1...for the US and Canada. - Choose the SMS provider: Twilio or BudgetSMS. The panel shows the price per message for that number before you create the channel.
- Enter the 4-digit code we send by SMS to verify the number.
Paid plans include a number of SMS each month (see Plans & limits). Extra SMS beyond those included are priced per message, depending on the provider and destination region, and are paid from your account credit. If you have no included SMS left, you need enough credit for the verification SMS to create the channel.
Slack
Create an Incoming Webhook in your Slack workspace and paste its URL (https://hooks.slack.com/services/...).
Discord
Create a webhook in your Discord server’s integration settings and paste the full webhook URL (https://discord.com/api/webhooks/...).
Telegram
Enter the Telegram chat ID to send alerts to. To find it:
- Private chat: message @UptimeDuckBot and it replies with your chat ID.
- Groups and channels: add @UptimeDuckBot to the group or channel. It posts the chat ID as its first message.
Group IDs usually start with a minus sign, for example -100123456789. Include it.
Matrix
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Homeserver URL | Leave empty to use https://matrix.org. |
| Room ID | For example !roomId:homeserver.org. Found in the room’s settings under Advanced. |
| Access token | The access token of the Matrix user that posts the alerts. |
Linking channels to monitors
- Choose channels when you create or edit a monitor.
- If you create a monitor without choosing any, your enabled channels are linked. If you have none yet, UptimeDuck creates an email channel for your verified account email and a push channel for each phone signed in to the app.
- On the Free plan, each monitor can use 1 notification channel. Paid plans have no limit.
